UFC Fight Night: Song vs Simon Main Card Results
Main Event: Song Yadong defeats Ricky Simon by TKO (strikes) at 1:10 of Round 5
An extra week’s wait and two extra rounds as the main event cranked up the intensity in the fight between Song Yadong and Ricky Simon that wrapped up Saturday’s fight card at the UFC APEX.
The bantamweights spent the majority of the opening round feeling each other out, but started to step on the gas in the second, with Song getting the better of the exchanges, flashing speed and power advantages, as well as sound defensive grappling to keep Simon in space. It was more of the same in the championship rounds, with Song countering Simon nicely and stifling his attempts to grapple.

Song Yadong Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Song vs Simon
/
After sitting Simon down with a filthy left hand right before the horn at the close of the fourth, Song dropped him with the same shot again in the fifth and pounded out the finish.
Just a confident, poised, and powerful bounce-back performance from Song Yadong, who moved to 9-2-1 inside the Octagon, and at 25 years old, remains one of the brightest young stars on the roster. | Official Scorecards
Co-Main Event: Caio Borralho defeats Michal Oleksiejczuk by submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:49 of Round 2
Caio Borralho continued his unbeaten run inside the Octagon, diligently attacking Michal Oleksiejczuk before securing a second-round submission win.

Caio Borralho Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Song vs Simon
/
The DWCS graduate got stuffed on his first three takedown attempts, which forced him to stand with the Polish striker. But after getting Oleksiejczuk to the ground late in the first, Borralho was quick to put him on the deck in the second, easily climbing into three-quarter mount before transitioning to the back and sinking in the rear-naked choke.
That’s now four straight victories in as many UFC starts for Borralho, who has won 11 straight and is unbeaten in his last 14 fights overall. “The Natural” looks like more and more of a threat in the middleweight division each time out, and should earn another step up in competition next time out. | Official Scorecards
Rodolfo Vieira defeats Cody Brundage by submission (arm-triangle choke) at 1:28 of Round 2
Rodolfo Vieira appeared to be on the brink of being finished midway through the opening round, but the Brazilian jiu jitsu world champion weathered the storm and rallied to secure a second-round finish of his own.

Rodolfo Vieira Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Song vs Simon
/
Cody Brundage floored Vieira midway through the first, planting a clean right hand on his chin and landing heavy shots on the canvas while the Brazilian hunted for a half-guard sweep. Vieira worked his way back to his feet and then went on the offensive, finishing the first on Brundage’s back having success. Early in the second, the Factory X representative jumped on a guillotine choke and it proved costly, as Vieira popped his head out and quickly attacked an arm-triangle choke, forcing Brundage to tap on the second attempt.
This was a gutsy, emotional victory for Vieira, who came in off a submission loss to Anthony Hernandez. The 33-year-old is now 4-2 in the UFC and 9-2 overall, while Brundage suffered a second straight loss and falls to 2-4 in the UFC with the loss. | Official Scorecards
Fernando Padilla defeats Julian Erosa by TKO (strikes) at 1:41 of Round 1
Fernando Padilla’s UFC debut was worth the wait, as the newcomer dispatched Julian Erosa in the opening stanza with a sharp flurry of clean shots.
The two men, who were near mirror images of one another, stood in the pocket and looked to exchange from the outset, each landing a couple clean shots before Padilla cracked Erosa with a right hand that staggered him. The follow-ups came quick and precise, causing Erosa to stumble and appear on his way out, only to regain his footing. More strikes followed and referee Chris Tognoni stepped in to halt the action.

Marcos Rogerio de Lima Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Song vs Simon
/
The Brazilian veteran battered Cortes-Acosta’s leg left from the outset, causing him issues from the early stages and effectively neutralizing his power. While the DWCS grad showed toughness and grit by continuing to battle, de Lima had enough success early to salt away a victory despite slowing down.
De Lima has now earned consecutive victories and won four of his last five, while Costa-Acosta can find positives from this step up in competition and steely effort against an experienced veteran. | Official Scorecards
Trey Waters defeats Josh Quinlan by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Standing six-foot-five, Trey Waters is huge for the welterweight division, and he used that length effectively in his short-notice promotional debut on Saturday.

Trey Waters Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Song vs Simon
/
Just a couple weeks after winning the LFA title, Waters waltzed into the Octagon and picked off Josh Quinlan, working behind a long, clean jab and good counter shots to bust up the undefeated DWCS graduate. Quinlan tried to find success with low kicks, but each time he hurried inside, Waters cracked him with sharp punches that backed him off.
This was another excellent short-notice showing from a promotional newcomer on Saturday, with Waters bouncing Quinlan from the ranks of the unbeaten while collecting a second straight win and the eighth victory of his young career. | Official Scorecards
UFC Fight Night: Song vs Simon Prelim Results
Martin Buday defeats Jake Collier by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Big boys Martin Buday and Jake Collier closed out the prelims, with the Slovakian weathering the early storm and rallying to secure his third straight UFC victory.
Collier came out pushing a torrid pace, looking to get Buday out of there early, but the Dana White’s Contender Series graduate dealt with the pressure well, found a home for some shots of his own and made his way to the second round. As Collier’s pace slowed, Buday started having more success, hurting Collier with knees to the midsection.

Martin Buday Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Song vs Simon

In the third, an extended finger caught Collier in the eye, but the fight continued. On the restart, Collier tried to press forward behind his jab, but slipped to the floor, leading to Buday finishing the fight in full mount, landing short shots.
Buday got the 2-1 nod from all three judges, and has now won 11 straight overall, moving to 12-1 in his career. Collier has now lost three straight and falls to 2-5 since returning to action in the heavyweight division. | Official Scorecards
Cody Durden defeats Charles Johnson by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Flyweights Cody Durden and Charles Johnson carried their pre-fight tensions into the Octagon on Saturday, engaging in a fast-paced grudge match on the prelims.
On the feet, Johnson showed smooth, fluid striking, but throughout the contest, Durden forced the issue with his wrestling, frequently dragging Johnson to the canvas, taking his back and forcing him to defend. But the heavy output on the canvas took its toll on Durden as well, and in the late stages of the second and early in the third, Johnson was able to out-work his rival on the feet. Durden finally got in on a takedown and back onto Johnson’s back with two minutes remaining, maintaining control of “InnerG” the rest of the way.
